It's AGM time again - the proposed date is Thursday 22nd July, at the Shire Inn. Date is flexible at the moment, but needs to be fixed in the next couple of weeks. If you can't make that date, and want to attend the meeting, let me know your preferred date.
I originally proposed the third Thursday in July, but work commitments mean that I can't make it. I hadn't realised that there were 5 Thursdays in July

The AGM is the place to discuss class and rule changes for the upcoming indoor season, as well as electing committee members, reviewing club finances, and any other changes for the future.
One topic for discussion is the future of the Mardave class. With decent NiMH cells becoming harder to find (and more expensive), now is probably the time to make the switch to LiPo and brushless. If you have any ideas or proposals for this, please let me know so that all the info can be gathered in advance of the meeting.
Another is the indoor buggy class - are enough members up for it to make it viable?

Anything else that you want to discuss, please let me know ASAP, so that the agenda can be published a couple of weeks before the meeting. This will allow any members that are unable to attend to make their opinions known.

We attempted to hold a race meeting last night (Tuesday 20th), but it started to rain as the grass was being cut, and only 6 racers had arrived by 19:00.
We decided to retire to the pub, and hold a "pre-AGM", as several members wouldn't be able to attend on Thursday.

9 members were in attendance, including all 3 currently active committee members, so the meeting was conducted along the same lines as the proper AGM. All proposals were voted upon, and the votes will be carried forward to the AGM on Thursday as proxies. Steve G. has typed-up the minutes of the meeting, and they will be available for scrutiny at the AGM.

So, the AGM proper will go ahead on Thursday. Votes for committee membership will be held, rule changes will be discussed and voted upon, with the proxy votes from Tuesday being added to the votes cast at the AGM.

It did get a little heated, but all worked out well in the end.

Well, the AGM was held ay 19:00 today, with only 2 members in attendance. We hung around until 19:30, but no-one else turned up. There was one further proposal - to allow the use of 3s LiPos in Mardave. The thinking behind this is to allow those members who fly to use their 'plane LiPos, keeping the cost down. Since 2s LiPos will give a surfeit of power with a stock motor, there is no performance advantage from the use of 3s with a smaller motor. The proposal was carried, as were all the proposals put forward at the pre-AGM on Tuesday - proxy votes were cast on Tuesday, and carried forward to the AGM.
All proposals were voted in with 7 to1, 8 to 1 or 9 to 0 majorities.

Myke, Steve G. and myself were re-elected in the same positions.
Pete C. and Iain P. were elected as joint liaison officers. They will also be responsible for scrutineering and enforcing the class rules.

General Rules:

The use of tyre additive will be banned in all classes, both to preserve the carpet and limit the speed on the opening laps of each race

LiPos must be charged in a LiPo sack indoors. This is an existing rule, but it seems it wasn't enforced last season. If you don't have a sack, leave your charger at home, please.

Class Rules - Mardave:

All chassis parts must be BRCA approved Mardave parts, with the exception of extra parts used to restrain and protect the battery.
Any motor, brushed or brushless, up to 540 size may be used.
Any speed controller may be used. Reverse is no longer required.
Any battery pack, up to 6-cell NiMH or 3s LiPo may be used.
"Soft" LiPos are OK, as long as they are adequately restrained and protected. This will be checked by the liaison officer(s) at the start of each meeting. Their descision will be final.
BRCA approved Mardave hop-ups are allowed. This includes strut braces, diffs and 48dp spur gears.
Kamtec internal bumpers and battery trays are allowed.
No tyre restrictions, so any suitable foam or rubber tyres are allowed.
Minimum weight limit lowered to 850gm.
Tyre additive is banned.

The idea is to enable people to run more or less whatever electrics they already have, keeping the cost of entry to the class as low as possible. The general consensus was that there would be no performance advantage gained from running unlimited, as the old 4-cell/silver can formula, with the right parts, already gave enough performance. Relaxing the rules will lower the cost, and Mardave is supposed to be all about cheap racing.

Class Rules - Touring Car:

Any brushed or brushless motor, up to 540 size, is allowed.
Any speed controller is allowed.
Any battery, up to 6-cell NiMH or 2s LiPo is allowed.
LiPos must be hard-cased for safety. Because of the design of TC chassis, it would be very difficult to safely fit soft LiPos.
As with the Mardave class, tyre additive is banned. Tyre warmers and "installation laps" are OK.

The thinking here is that the top "stock" motor/ESC combo is already at the limit of performance. Allowing modified motors will let those that can't justify the expense of buying a £200 speedo to compete.
